Rav4 Championship 3rd Round 17-18 June 2000 @ Builth Wells, Wales.
Another hot and sunny weekend as the machine rolled into action this time at Buith Wells home of the famous Royal Welsh Showground where I have spent many a weekend.
The Builth Wells course is recognised as one of the best in the country. It starts with a 150m climb out to the water tank on the moor, before the riders take a dramatic turn downhill, where the infamous slippery rocks and trees of Skull Valley are always ready to obstruct.
Fresh from his silver medal at the World Championships, Steve Peat turned in a typically smooth performance to put nearly six seconds between him and the rest of the field. Matt Farmer and Rob Jarman, both finishing outside the top five, the Sheffield rider now has a commanding lead. Robin Kitchen turned in an excellent ride to finish second, just ahead of Tim Ponting, who is showing signs of returning to his old consistent self. Ed Moseley moved into third place in the series with a solid sixth place.
It was a good day all-round for the Moseley clan with Tracy picking up her second successive win in the Women's series and, with it, the lead in the series standings. World Championship medallists Helen Gaskell and Fionn Griffiths both had off days, finishing fourth and sixth respectively. It was left to Adele Croxon and Anja Rees Jones to challenge Tracy. And Adele nearly pulled off a spectacular win, finishing only six tenths of a second down.
