RVCA
The concept behind RVCA was conceived by PM Tenore. Tenore's vision was to create a design-driven clothing brand that flows simultaneously with an active lifestyle embracing skate, snow and surf. RVCA walks the line between contemporary and active wear, and tries to stay away from the trends in the surf, street, skate and snowboard industries.
Disenchanted with action sports branding and design constraints, and acutely aware of the “Legitimacy barriers” confronting mainstream sportswear companies, Tenore created RVCA to be a more organic brand that didn't have to follow industry rules. Instead RVCA Clothing takes its roots in American workwear and adds function and fashion for every day every situations.
PM and Conan Hayes had been childhood friends when they met while surfing the north shore in 1988. Later in 2002, they met up in New York, where Tenore shared his vision of this new brand. Hayes, an established professional surfer, found himself doing something he would have never previously imagined, declining a lucrative pro surfing contract to pursue Tenore's vision.
As RVCA grew, so did the Artist Network Program, an ongoing program to showcase the talent of established as well as unknown artists who inspire our generation. Through the course of this program, RVCA donates partial proceeds from designs sold to each artist's charity of choice.
Artist / Pro Skater, Ed Templeton (whom ten years previous to RVCA's beginning, would show his art in Tenore's skate boutique) became the first artist to participate in the Artist Network Program. Donating his proceeds to The Luggage Store Gallery in San Fransisco, Templeton paved the way for other artists to use their works to help raise awareness and benefit the community.

Spiewak
Polish immigrant Isaac Spiewak opened his first shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in 1904, selling handmade sheepskin vests to New Yorkers. Over the years, the company officially known as Spiewak & Sons has evolved into a supplier of field jackets, pea coats, and flight jackets to the U.S. military as well as into one of the original urban outfitters, its sturdy clothes having been adopted by hip-hop heads and downtown hipsters.
“What it’s all about for us is re-addressing the fit, which a lot of the time is taking it back to the original tailored lines. Men’s clothing is all about that tailored look now. Taking things like a basic tanker jacket and putting it into herringbone tweed. Making it modern” states Dan Hendricks Spiewak brand director.
While some companies with long histories flinch when adopted by a subculture, Spiewak has usually embraced the unsolicited attention. Some of the company’s recent success can be traced to a photo shoot featuring the members of Junior M.A.F.I.A. (Junior Masters At Finding Intelligent Attitudes ) in its clothing. Hendricks says. “ With Spiewak, we take technical elements, outdoor lines, and what I call a ‘dad mainstream look’ and turn it into really good street styling. It’s fashion that works in the real world.”

Mada
Mada was conceived in a small beach house in Dana Point CA in the summer of 2004 by Vince De La Pena who wanted to create a brand that wouldn’t be over distributed, not to be sold in just any store. His vision for Mada was to truly put the “special back into specialty”.
With the unveiling of Mada, the publics first perception of Mada was exactly what Vince intended, gritty black and white photos, inspired by vintage Rock N Roll photography. These images captured the true rawness of its team riders, never staged rather than scripted and posed. ”.
Mada’s foundation is built on using only the best quality denim, fabrics, and showcasing original pieces inspired by its team riders while using some of the most progressive fits. |
